A made-to-measure suit is the ultimate luxury and a valuable piece of quality of life that every gentleman should invest in. With me, you can be your own designer. You can design and perfectly adjust your personal clothing using individual patterns. There are no limits to your creativity. My made-to-measure journey begins with the trial sizes, which I have completely redeveloped in a contemporary way to offer my customers an improved fit. Made-to-measure is an experience that offers the customer optimal fit and maximum comfort – but the luxury of choices from different materials is also of utmost importance. As part of my MTM program, I have specifically created a collection of fabrics that cover all types of occasions and requirements. I carry a comprehensive fabric selection for year-round suits, jackets, and evening wear. These are complemented by exclusive seasonal additions introduced at the beginning of each new collection.
Durable Thanks to Full Canvas
In ready-to-wear as well as in many custom tailoring shops, the materials are mechanically glued under high pressure before sewing. While this allows for faster, but usually less precise processing of the jacket – at the expense of the positive properties of the outer fabric and the fit. In the full canvas method, on the other hand, the interlining is completely sewn instead of glued – along the entire length, from neck to hem (unlike half canvas).
This gives the interlining more room to maneuver and adapts particularly well to the body shape when worn. The sewn construction allows the jacket to breathe. By avoiding adhesive, it gains longevity – especially when worn frequently. Full canvas is the highest quality solution that is noticeable with every wear. And: It is the most durable solution for your made-to-measure suit.
Tailoring - Jackets, Light and Shape-Stable
The quality of a men’s jacket is measured primarily by the special wearing comfort, depending on the lightness and shape stability of the outer fabric. Since these two criteria contradict each other, the fine, light outer fabric needs a special interlining to be shape-stable. Canvas is an interlining fabric made of linen or cotton in plain weave. These textile interlinings are applied to the inside of the outer fabric, either by thermal bonding or by sewing (basting). This gives the outer fabric the desired stability.
The Made-to-Measure The Sartorialist MTM Process
Do you already have specific ideas and wishes about how your suit should look? Or are you not quite sure what suits you best? Either way, I will accompany you to your perfect made-to-measure clothing. During the personal consultation, I get to know you and your individual needs better. The initial consultation is straightforward and can be divided into three steps: fabric selection, measurement, and detail selection. It’s a simple process, yet it involves many important decisions. I will guide and advise you through this process, taking all your wishes into account. However, it’s worthwhile to research the type of suit you want before your appointment. With my wide range of fabric collections for summer and winter, you have the luxury of finding the perfect material for you. The selection ranges from superfine wool qualities and soft flannels to airy seersucker fabrics for summer suits. Densely woven flannels are excellent for evening wear; velvet is an elegant option for winter wardrobes. Which of these materials is suitable for your suit depends on your weight, the occasion, and the cut – and of course, this decision also involves color, weave, and pattern – for example, pinstripes, bold or subtle checks, etc. Last but not least, you may choose those details that make the suit a true one-of-a-kind piece. Options include lapel style and width, lining color, belt loops, side adjusters or clamped buttons, trouser cuffs or a plain finish, type of pockets, ticket pocket or none, button style, and much more. Three to six weeks later, your suit arrives back at The Sartorialist Store, and I will contact you to make the final fitting. I will ask you to try on your suit and, if necessary, make any required adjustments to ensure your suit fits perfectly. You can benefit from my bespoke service at the store in Beethovenstrasse 24, 8002 Zurich, or if desired, at your office or home. Bespoke suits are the perfect solution for a modern gentleman who values both style and individuality.
